We also need good, solid foundational nutritional support. No element\mineral works by itself.
It is all synergistic.
So, if someone was essential mineral\element deficient, and\or imbalanced, they would be more vulnerable to the effects of radiation exposure than someone who was sufficient.
A few papers (hard to find) I have read have shown that test animals that are nutritionally balanced and sound, absorb up to 50% less radiation than those who are not.
In other words... if some one eats junk foods... and consumes supplemental *iodine*, they are not likely to be helped very much... some perhaps, especially when it comes to the thyroid and endocrine glands... but not nearly as much as another who may have been, and be eating as healthy a diet as they can.
It can take many months and even several years in some to reach sufficiency. Why?
1. Some people can better metabolize nutrition from plants than others... from a 1 - 10 conversion in the best plant metabolizers, to a 1 - 75 in the worst... then there are those that cannot convert some nutrients in plants at all.
2. Dr, Gabriel Cousins in his clinical research has found that some people need more B vitamins than others just to function normally... up to 10x more.
This is true with all nutritional needs... everyone is unique. That is why getting in tune with YOUR body's needs is so important to YOU.
In addition, there are more radioactive elements out there than iodine... cesium, strontium, germanium, etc. which will wreck havoc in other parts of the body, including the bone in those insufficient in things like calcium, magnesium, potassium... etc.
Iodine is just *ONE* of many parts of that needed in order to protect oneself from the effects of radioactive exposures.
If it was just radioactive Iodine that we needed to concern ourselves with... Iodine *may* then suffice in those nutritionally sound... however, it is not just radioactive Iodine in most cases. Atmospheric dispersal of any radioactive element would almost ensure that.
See the forest through the trees.
This post is intended to be helpful to those that have come to think\believe iodine is all they need to protect themselves from radioactive threats... it is not.
It is just one *need* of many. It has however become a vitally important need due to the lack of it in our diets these days... and the introduction of competing halides and toxic minerals into the 80,000+ chemicals, water, food supply, and pharmaceuticals that *chelate* what little we may have from our bodies.
