I searched for 'spenic flexure' , sharp bends in the transverse colon, either splecic flexure (near the spleen, left side) and hepatic flexure, (near the liver, right side). Wikipedia has 2 articles, here is the one about Splenic Flexure Syndrome, you can read some of the other websites.

Splenic flexure syndromeFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Splenic-flexure syndrome)

Splenic flexure syndrome is a term sometimes used to describe bloating, muscle spasms of the colon, and upper abdominal discomfort thought to be caused by trapped gas at the splenic (as opposed to hepatic) flexure in the colon; the pain caused can be excruciating and debilitating, and may mimic that of a heart attack (because of the proximity of the splenic flexure to the heart).

Some physicians classify splenic flexure syndrome as a type of IBS; others consider it a separate condition.

Some of these intestinal problems can be helped by improving digestive health. See the Liver Flush Support Forum for several of these programs.
