I owned a grocery store for ten years, Spud...we would have to change many of our shopping habits, if we want to do away with plastic, I think.
...Like; take a leak-proof container when we go shopping (or several).
When I ran the food concession in the local hockey arena, as a 'hockey mom', I heard of people who didn't buy coffee because they were allergic to styrofoam cups.
We don't mention our allergies, etc. in polite company, but they are there.
There are youngsters who have to be guarded by family members because they are celiac. I watched one of my son's friends with that condition. He was quite embarrassed about it. It was a small town.
I remember a neighbor's boy, in a city, who, as an infant, could only tolerate lamb and squash. His mom was very glad he grew out of his intolerances by age two. She got so she could hardly look lamb and squash in the face anymore...cooking and running it through the blender every day.
My husband remembers when our air force flew Watermelon in from the U.S. south, when a baby couldn't tolerate anything else...1930's, I believe.
Or, maybe our doctors were mistaken...
