Including a link to da man's(Guy Abrahams, my hero) words on the inhibitory effect of calcium supplementation's inhibitory effects on orthoiodosupplementation...
if we take the magnesium and selenium every day with Iodinesupplementation, what about calcium? Just wondering if calcium should be added....maybe a calcium/magnesium supplement or is it not needed
its all about balance. most people get enough calcium. then there is absorption. that can be a problem.
if one thinks they need calcium, do what the cows do for all that bone and milk - juice wheat grass. although, in the winter especially, a warm soup is really good on the palate. i got scolded once for bringing up adelle davis on these forums. i think she was a saint. a good bone broth is good, i dont care what you think. its not just calcium in those bones.
We are indeed much more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless help us to be much more than what we are.
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.
To say that obesity is caused by merely consuming too many calories is like saying that the only cause of the American Revolution was the Boston Tea Party.
Thousands upon thousands of persons have studied disease. Almost no one has studied health.
As I see it, every day you do one of two things: build health or produce disease in yourself.
If this country is to survive, the best-fed-nation myth had better be recognized for what it is: propaganda designed to produce wealth but not health.
Nutrition . . . has been kicked around like a puppy that cannot take care of itself. Food faddists and crackpots have kicked it pretty cruelly . . .
Thank you...I want to avoid too many supplements as I think it just puts you out of balance. I just made a beef minestrone soup a few days ago with short ribs and onions, celery, carrots, corn. It was so good in this cold weather. My kids love soup so next week it will be chicken soup!
i get a roasted chicken and boil it in distilled water. i set the broth aside, pick the meat off the bones that i want and then throw the rest back in the pot, bones and skin and any innards(gizzards and livers and such) handy and boil in more distilled water and a couple of glugs of braggs ACV. i boil it till i cant smell the vinegar any more. strain that liquid, put it back in a clean pot and start tossing in the carrots and Celery and rosemary, etc while it simmers. keep adding and cooking and add the original broth in(i also throw in a little organic soup base for flavor if needed) and add the chicken meat back in at the very last. i also like baby portabellas sliced thick and thrown in. by the time i am done the stuff is half digested! oh yea, i cheat and buy the frozen egg noodles. a good mom would never do that! lol ;)
almost forgot. i cook the noodles in the chicken broth before adding it back into the big pot. they are savory.
herring/sardines are a good source of Ca, Mg. If they're in olive oil the oleic is good too. Not to mention all the nutrition thats in the guts of the little fishies. Plus good protein. Vit. A, D. And also dimethylaminoethanol. Calcium pills are like p 0 r n, an attempt at a substitute for the real. Sort of like paper money too. People love fake stuff it seems, like a bass will hit on a Rapala or Daredevil, or a trout on a fly. Didn't someone once make a comparison between money and a fishhook somewhere along the line ?
basically, you're eating all their bones. If there's 15 of them in a can and you eat them all, that's probably half a gram of calcium, plus its in the right ratio with the mag & cet.
I eat eggs a few days a week for breakfast and the days I don't have eggs I might have to eat some sardines. It might the only way to get them into my diet.....
Get your calcium from bio-available sources, such as bone broth and little fishies. Do NOT sup calcium, there are a million reasons for that, but in terms of Iodine supplementation, listen to da man, prof Guy Abrahams:
"Increased organification of Iodide in the thyroid gland following ATP Cofactor was observed in FM patients. In Table 1 are displayed the results of thyroid function tests in 5 FM patients before intervention, after 100 mg Iodine for 6 weeks and after the addition of the ATP Cofactors for another 6 weeks. The mean values of all thyroid hormones measured decreased following 6 weeks on iodine at 100 mg/day. However, all mean values increased to baseline levels following 6 weeks on ATP Cofactors.
Conclusion Orthoiodosupplementation with ATP Cofactors should be part of a complete nutritional program emphasizing magnesium instead of calcium. In the author’s experience, megadosing with calcium (2,000-3,000 mg/day) has been the most common cause of poor response to orthoiodosupplementation. Physicians and other health care professionals need to be informed about the toxicity of excess calcium,32 and the importance of adequate magnesium intake32-36 for optimal health and strong bones."
