It's inexcusable behaviour, to have this happen in our country and any country for that matter. It is inhuman and the government and the opppostion should be accountable to the Australian Public and the Refugees.

Like you said Spud, we are all human. The government should put away the politics and the superior attitudes, and think for a moment about the absolute trauma these refugees went through.

Firstly, beginning with the wrongful and false hope the boat smugglers told these desperate and very vunerable people. Their own country are at war. They turned to their own people who manipulated and took their money for a promise of a better life. All they want is peace and safety for their family and themselves.

Secondly, they travelled to our waters and their boat impacted the rocky coastline, ripped apart and with many loved ones lost.

Now, they are in the hands of a government who think only of their own agenda and give no thought whatsoever to the families of the victims who died.

Treating these people like they are criminal by not allowing them to reunite with their families in private to mourn the loss of their beloved littled girl, is shameful.

Even if the government realises their bad, bad mistake and apoligises, it will be to late. The damage has been done. These families are now being put though further distress including that of the 8 year old boy who lost his father and all his family.

Government of Australia, let the 8 year old boy be with his Aunt. He will suffer for the rest of his life with these memories. Let him finally have peace and some normality with his Aunty.

The father of this little girl. Instead of him being put on a suicide watch, let him be with his brother. Have some compassion.

What if these officials were in a similar situation and they were denied to be with their family if they lost there loved one, no matter where they were in the world.

A quote from Australian Prime Minister Gillard in regards to this situation:


-Ms Gillard said the division on the issue was creating an impasse.

"If you are hard headed, you’re dismissed as hard hearted, if you are open hearted you’re marginalised as supporting open borders," she said.

"I say to those engaged in this type of rhetoric: 'Stop selling our national character short. We are better than this. We are much better than this."

It's hard to believe, this particular quote above. If our nation is what she says it is, then why did this cold hearted attitude towards these families and their lost loved ones happen.
