Heya Spuds,

In some circles he is very well known. When he was handed the EFF (Electronic Freedom Foundation) award, a couple or so other people who were awarded that year, 1993, were Vint Cerf, Ward Christensen and Paul Baran. Cerf is considered to be one of the fathers of the internet Baran invented packet switching which is the core logic for routers. Christensen invented the first BBS system and Xmodem. They are all deeply accomplished in their areas, and they all know Hughes for he took these technologies and applied real world use of these tools. People like Alvin Toffler who wrote Future Shock acknowledged Hughes for his pioneered of Electronic Democracy ideas. So while he is not mainstream recognizable, he is in some of these circles. What he is not is complacent. He is not a follower. He is not whiner or complainer. God knows we have enough of those. He has the reputation as an aggressive and innovative leader. Military and post military. And one shouldn't be fooled when you hear the word innovative as that can connote a brainiac. He has combat experiences that have been recounted at West Point in the leadership training.

Anywayzzzzz... Hughes is recognized as the first person to lead the use of electronic computer communications in pursuit of Democracy. And that is the tip of the iceberg in what he has accomplished.
