It is interesting how stomach acid affects bowel movements. When we eat we produce hydrochloric acid in the stomach to liquify the food. This is a strong acid and the pH becomes very low. This acidity triggers the iliac valve at the bottom of the small intestine to release digested food into the bowel, so we have the urge to deficate. In a healthy person they will have the urge to go within an hour after eating a meal. Although some Drs still advise acid blockers, many Drs now realize that this interferes with good elimination and digestion of food, so they advise taking HCl drops or Betaine - HCl to increase acidity in the stomach. This acidity does not harm the stomach and when the stomach contents pass into the small intestine it is nutralized by the bile.
One of the first signs that I had a gluten sensitivity was pain and cramping in the abdomen near the appendix area and constipation. I would massage the area until the cramps released and then I would belch a little and pass a little gas and sometime later have a bm. It may help to avoid gluten foods (wheat, barley, rye) and be tested for Celiac Disease to rule out that problem.
