I got my doctor to reluctantly prescribe Diflucan after taking a bunch of inconclusive tests, and some pleading. After taking a short dosage with only moderate relief, and then picking up my own supply in Mexico and trying it again at a higher dosage (300 mg/day for a month), I figured out why doctors are so reluctant. It's REALLY HARD on your liver. It might work well if you're in the early stages of candida, but if you're got a long-standing condition that has already taxed your liver, Diflucan is poison and will set back progress more than anything.

What I would like to see more of are prescriptions for anti-fungals that work in the gut and don't have any liver harming properties. I'm talking about Nystatin and oral Amphotericin B. That stuff is over the counter in many European countries. Theres no consequence for doctors here to prescribe it, other than having to acknowledge that there might be some conditions out there that aren't covered in med school.
