alas, my dreamt of orangerie (or even a few lemon trees ) has not materialized. I have one grapefruit that is three years old now, and doing quite well in a pot. Probably I need two to get fruit. Have not as yet had flowers. Lime is another one I love the scent of. Even if I only ever saw flowers.
It is not as easy as one might imagine to grow citrus in a place with cold winters such as where I live. For anyone with the real thing, and the temperatures to sustain them,
don't undervalue it!
The wood has to be at least two years old to flower, so you should be getting some blossoms. Adding super phosphate to the soil in the spring will help. Plants use a lot of phosphorus in blooming. There are also natural and safe hormones such as gibberellins that will help induce blooming. Seaweeds are a good source.
In the winter if it is going to freeze wrap the trees in Christmas lights with real bulbs, not LEDs. They will put off enough heat to help prevent frost damage to the trees.
