So I have been working with a doctor since October, but more like mid november, because that was when I first got my labs back and he could actually start treatment. Wow, now that I actually look at it, I have only been working with his treatment for ~9 weeks. He is a top of the field psychiatrist, and a neuroendocrinologist. Anyway, my treatment was basically low dose antidepressant, combined with nutrition. I have come a long way since being with him.
However, the more I look at my symptoms, the more I feel I simply have cfs/me. In fact, I don't believe in adrenal fatigue as anything other than a process that the body goes through that prevents itself from further damaging itself. I think what we really have is inflammation induced viral activation, which then induces more inflammation. An inflammatory cascade, if you will.
Anyway, I have been looking at cfs forums a lot this last week and have found some things that surprise me.
Interestingly, my doctor put me on high dose folic acid and b12 (methyl form). In the cfs forums this is called the methylation protocol. What I found is that the b12 forms I am taking aren't that good, though, and I could see better results taking jarrow brand or enzymatic therapy brand.
After pretty much making a decision on the root cause, I am unsure if my doctor can be of much help anymore, I plan on basically having one more appointment with him for final discussion. I just have come to think that adrenal fatigue is inflammation activating viruses in our bodies (that have been there for who knows how long?). The funny thing is that antidepressants are actually the best thing that AIDS patients can take, because they have the best ability as antivirals. Thats right, antidepressants are actually antivirals. So yeah, thats what I think Depression really is, it starts with a hormonal response to stress, and then leads to a viral infection causing inflammation in the brain. Cool huh?
I tried hydrocortisone at 20mg a day. IT was one of the worst experiences ever. It made me feel worse than I have felt in the last 6 months. I got anxiety like crazy, and got horrible depression, and I only took it for 2 days. I will never take it again. I am reminded that my body has downregulated cortisol production so that my body can have a better immune system against the infection I have. I am pretty sure I have something like xmrv etc.
