According to your saliva test, you've got low cortisol in am (should be 24), elivated Noon (should be 'bout 8) and low evening (should be 'bout 5) and highish midnight (should be at bottom or 1).

The low cortisol is attributing to the anxiety. If your licorice root is cut and sifted (not powdered), try with 1 tsp of it in hot water (keep the licorice root in cup and don't strain) and make a tea in the morning and evening 'round dinner time, you might want to try 2 tsp if 1 tsp isn't helping much. Get some hawthorne berry capsules and take these when you get the heart palps.

Your DHEA should be higher, try some pregnenolone. It has done wonders for me, but I'm also dealing with menopause. I'm taking 200-300mg daily. You might want to start with 50 and maybe work your way up. If you start to get side effects, then drop back.

I don't know if the xanax is contributing to the anxiety or not. Try the hawthorne and someone mentioned taurine as helpful. I can't offer any advice about the xanex or whether you should wean off or not. I'm currently taking 50mg elivil to help with sleep (along with melatonin), so in my case ssri's have been helpful.

I also strongly suspect that you are hypothyroid (cold extremities). Getting started on some Iodine + selenium + tryosine would be helpful. Tryosine is good for the adrenals too. Swanson Vitamins sells 2oz of 2% Lugols for about $11.

You can try 1 drop of that in water daily and see how you do. Then try 1 drop twice a day. With your adrenals in the shape that they are in, start low and slow with the iodine. The Iodine supplementation board here on curezone is a really good resource. Also look at the info here too:

If you start experiencing detox symptoms, drink about 8-10oz of water with 1/4 tsp of unprocessed salt. The salt will help flush out the bromides and relieve alot of detox symptoms.

Adding NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) 600-1200mg 1-2 times a day will support the kidneys and liver in detoxing as well as help the adrenals.

You may also find that isocort + licorice may be helpful for your low cortisol times. It is all really individual and you'll have to try it to see if it helps.

Finally, remember to STRESS DOSE (isocort would be easier for this) when you are under extra stress -- like an illness, injury or fight with family. This is really important to support the already stressed adrenals during extra stress.

Rescue remedy might also prove helpful for you with the anxiety. It was specifically designed for anxiety and stress. You can get it in liquid form and in lozenge form. I dole out a Rescue remedy lozenge to my daughter (she's 13) when she gets over emotional (hormones) due to extra stress with school, lack of sleep or pms. It really helps her regain control and calm down.
