Luckily the body a automatic response built in called the Migrating motor complex (MMC).
It starts about 2 hrs after we finish eating.
1. Firstly there period of about an hour when there is little activity in he digestive system.
2.This is then followed by 30 minutes strong wave like contractions occur and progressively increase in frequency in the stomach and small intestines.
3.Then for 5 to 15 minutes in which rapid, evenly spaced very strong contractions occur in the stomach. The stomach opens wide to allow indigestible materials to pass into the small intestine.
4.There is then a short period of rest before the cycle kicks of again.

The cycle is interrupted by eating and if any food fails to pass through the stomach it will be regurgitated.
