i dont know if anyone has explained a bit more about the gallbladder to you on this site, but usually once it begins to malfunction, that is a hint that maybe the issue resides in the liver. have they check your liver enzymes is a good question, and im sure they did, however, not all liver diseases are compliant when ast and alt are concerned. i'd ask the doc about getting a good picture on the liver and some of the common diseases known to infect it.
