For thousands of years there have been humans wearing significant amounts of silver in contact with their skin with no obvious side effects. The silver in filings is not toxic, it is only the mercury which is used to bind it that causes the toxicity.

Even people who absorb large amounts of silver experience little side effects other than blue color.
