Thanks, can you in laymans terms describe what both of the magnesium and chromium do to help, and also are they "management" tools to help with the condition, or can they reverse/cure the condition?

In layman's terms chromium helps to open insulin receptors so they function properly.  In order for insulin to do its job it must first latch on to open insulin receptors.  But a lack of chromium causes the insulin receptors to close leading to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.  This is because the insulin cannot be utilized by the body.  Think of insulin being a cargo ship and the receptors being a port.  The ship must dock in a port to unload its cargo.  Just like insulin must dock to an insulin receptor in order to do its job.  If there is no receptor though for the insulin to dock on to the insulin cannot do its job and the glucose remains in the blood.

Magnesium is needed for insulin production, and it has been shown to also help with insulin's actions.  In addition, magnesium can also help prevent insulin damage.  In high levels insulin leads to problems such as retinopathy, high blood pressure, kidney damage/failure, gangrene and heart disease.  This is because high levels of insulin have very strong constricting effects on blood vessels leading to damage to the blood vessels.  When the smaller blood vessels are damaged blood flow can be impeded leading to tissue damage/death.  Constriction of the larger blood vessels leads to high blood pressure.  Damage to arterial linings leads to inflammation and arterial plaque formation.  Magnesium counters these side effects by antagonizing calcium, which causes blood vessels to relax.
