Stevia is an herb, but does not break down into elementary glucose, the primary fuel for the body, therefore it can be considered an artificial sweetener. Glucose is necessary for normal bodily functions. Sugars are not the enemy, just the overuse of the nutritionally dead man made sucrose-white sugar. In the hospital electrolytes are normally administered with a 5% dextrose solution for optimum absorption.
