Hello,
I just wanted to let you know that I had a similar experience with cramping with insertion. It was so bad that I couldn't get out of bed for a couple days (the doctor told me that I would be able to go to work right after the insertion -- yeah right) combined with heavy bleeding. This was in January of 2008, and all I can remember now is that the cramping lasted for a long time, and the bleeding lasted even longer (I bled for about 3 months straight, though I know this isn't your problem, and probably cramped for a month or so).
After a few days, I really felt that something was wrong. I was weak from bleeding, and could hardly sleep or work from the pain. The doctor's told me it was normal and not to worry. I wanted it out, and was scared, but left it in anyways.
Please look at my messages for my entire horrible experience with Mirena -- long story short: I wish I had had it removed at the beginning when I wanted to. I had Mirena for 18 months, and am now 18 months post. I am still not back to normal, but feel so much better than when Mirena was in. It has been a long road.
Removal : Unless it is embedded (which usually takes time, more than a couple days) or has perforated the uterus, feels like nothing. It was similar to removing a tampon. Some women cramp after removal, but I did not. Insertion was one of the most painful experiences of my life, but removal was painless.
The risks of this thing are just not worth it. Your doctor will probably tell you this is all normal, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have removed the thing myself! And keep in mind, even if you do feel better after awhile, it is common for side effects to really only become severe after a long time. After I stopped bleeding and cramping I felt fine for awhile. It was only 8 months after insertion that my side effects became severe and life-altering. Many of these disappeared completely upon removal. Some are still fading today.
Good luck & Happy Holidays!
