Look into the new paradigm of epi-genetics. This is a new field that demonstrates that the mind (consciousness)sits atop of the genetic code. Genetics is plastic in nature It is like a recording device and the mind can alter the programming.

A good intro into this paradigm is a new documentary called "What If?"

This will get you going. ;-)
