I've got something going on with my digestive track. I've been fighting Candida problems for a while so this might be related.
I've basically got a stomach ache that doesn't want to go away. 1st time this has happened. I think it's been going on for about two weeks now. I think it started after taking Dr. Schulze Intestinal Formula #1. I also took Baseline Nutrtinals Colon Corrective around the same time. Don't know if either one of those could have irritated something. It's a constant mild ache. The ache isn't coming from any specific spot. It kinda feels like my entire colon is inflamed.
Could this be IBS or IBD related and what do you recommend for treating IBS/IBD issues?
Could the pain be coming from swollen lymph nodes in the abdomen?
These two formulas are very similar. Dr. Schulze's Intestinal Formula #1 formula contains:
Curacao and cape aloe leaf, senna leaves and pods, cascara sagrada, barberry root bark, ginger rhizome, garlic bulb, and habanero peppers.
And Colon Corrective:
Aloe ferox, cascara sagrada, senna, barberry, ginger, fennel seed, terminalia chebula and African birdseye cayenne.
Neither formula is safe and I would not get near either formula.
The aloes, senna and cascara sagrada all contain high levels of anthraquinone stimulant laxatives. These can weaken the intestines in as little as two weeks of use leading to a laxative dependence.
Barberry is a berberine source. Berberine kills the intestinal flora, can damage the intestinal lining and can deplete potassium increasing blood pressure. This is why I prefer to avoid berberine sources including goldenseal, Oregon grape root and coptis (goldthread).
I rarely recommend ginger due to its antacid effects. Neutralizing the stomach acid is not a good idea.
Habanero and African birdseye cayenne are both extremely hot peppers used to irritate the intestinal wall to increase fluid release and peristalsis. But they are could be an issue in cases of ulcers, intestinal inflammation and salicylate sensitivities.
As for your symptoms it is hard to say. It could be from rebound constipation, ulcerations, inflammation or IBS from killing off the flora with the barberry. It is not likely swollen lymph nodes. Sounds most likely as simple intestinal inflammation from the formulas since you did not mention alternating constipation-diarrhea, which is a hallmark of IBS.
Yucca root and licorice root are both excellent intestinal anti-inflammatories and help promote normal peristalsis unlike the anthraquinone laxatives.
