What you did in that message is called "low punch" in a debate.
Your words:
"Wow! Did you even attempt to proofread this before you posted it? Okay, so you obviously did not."
It is a classic logical fallacy!
You attacked the poster, instead of addressing the message.
That is exactly why your message was edited by a moderator.
You know what is "low punch" in boxing? If you kick below belt.
Why is your message a low punch?
Not proofreading a message before posting it has nothing to do with the argument that message is making.
Messages that people post on discussion boards are not books that are going to be printed in 50000 examples. it is not always necessary to proofread before you post.
A person may even not have time to proofread.
Or may use a mobile phone with limited screen and limited editing possibilities.
Ad hominem logical fallacy
Ad hominem abuse can also involve pointing out factual but ostensible actions which are irrelevant to the opponent's argument. This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and even true negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions.
Irrelevant conclusion logical fallacy
Irrelevant conclusion is the informal fallacy of presenting an argument that may in itself be valid, but does not address the issue in question.
So, you see, you are not as innocent as you think you are ...
Before you attack a moderator, make sure you are innocent !
dbModerator has done great job stopping personal attacks!
Yes, she may have overdone it a few times, but nobody was born with knowledge of moderating. Moderators learn though errors like the rest of us.
best of health
