I can understand your passionate distaste, as from where I come from it seems that Africa has been obviously pillaged for its cultural richness, eg western music and so on etc.
The media would have to be the main tool used here as it regurgitates the stolen creativity of others back to the target audience, whilst it may make a passing sarcastic reference to its roots.
Who knows when this started, but I believe you cant keep a good man down, and our original beliefs and settings are hidden in our DNA and will re-surface, if not in this life time then maybe in our offsprings offspring.
I dont know anyone who hasnt traded in their beliefs (willfully or with a gun to their head) in some way or another, its just temporary and I dont believe in a guy with horns holding a contract, only shifty people with lots of charisma and a hidden agenda.
Its heartbreaking to see my own culture at threat from cheap imported media that the locals are only too keen to lap up like little puppydogs. Especially when it panders to their perceived 'type' and makes them feel special or superior. Our elders seem to be the only ones who can see through this clearly.
When the 'powers that be' want to make war, they first divide their perceived enemy by making the individuals question their own beliefs, weakening the bonds between groups. The groups are then further split by creating a situation where a difficult decision has to be made, causing disagreement and distraction, even, with luck civil war. Then they can swoop in like heroes and "save the day', stealing the hearts and minds of the 'war ravaged' civilians.
Educating people is the only way around this. What we take from the past determines our future, we must remember and focus on our achievements, and even redefine in ourselves what a true achievement is !
Freedom is a state of mind, and our minds are the main battlefront, dont write yourselves off, power shifts and changes; the injustices of today may well be the awakening of tomorrow ;]
