As you correctly pointed out, there is no historical record of peoples eating only a strict vegetarian diet and without meat man would not have survived. Likewise, as I have pointed out - man has lived, evolved/adapted for many, many thousands of years and has always had meat as an important part of their diet. How anyone can look at the history of mankind and say that nature intended us to be vegetarians is beyond me.
People can argue all they want about the benefits of eating plenty of vegetables and I may agree in many instances, but I can never agree that eating only vegetables is natural (certainly not from an historical standpoint or from a nutritional standpoint either) nor can I see one iota of proof that it is what nature has intended.
Man may not have been born cooking, but once man had the tool he used it extensively. A great many foods are best eaten raw, but some foods absolutely are better when cooked to at least some extent. And your point about the benefit of animal fats is spot on.
