Those lovely little babies also grow up, and while babies are cute, teenagers are not. The current situation for unwanted children, or for children that cannot be looked after by the mother, for whatever reason, is either adoption,(and all the problems associated with that), or a state or church run institution, or as many now end up, living on the street.
