Hi RyanD,

The Master-Cleanse is a fast using lemon juice, Grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper. As you know, lemon juice is highly alkalizing when it`s metabolized in the body. The reason is that the Sugar content (which is acidic) is very low, while the mineral content (which helps raise pH) is very high. Maple syrup supplements the nutritional profile and supplies carbohydrates, and cayenne provides a high level of vitamin A and other nutrients. Cayenne is great for increasing blood flow throughout the body and is the most powerful part of the detoxing nature of this drink. It also helps to maintain the metabolism level, which drops as a consequence of low caloric consumption.

Since you do not agree with fasting, I will not try to explain the benefits. Everyone has different life experiences and bodies, and what is right for some people is not right for others.

My question, as addressed to the Alkalyzing formu, is this: Why did my urine pH level suddenly rise from around 5.0 - 5.5 during the Master-Cleanse (in this case, indicating a high toxin load and persistent state of acidosis) to 7.8? I think the answer is in what I suddenly started consuming: vegetable juices and vegetables in broth, in particular kombu (kelp), wakame, chinese cabbage, carrots and onions. I think the urine pH levels change quickly with whatever is consumed, while saliva levels change more slowly and are a better indication of the acid/alkaline state in the body. Do you think this is correct?
