Also, while we're on the top of cell microbiology and signaling, I'm curious whether there are separate signals that spur cell proliferation and death, and maybe there is even another signal or chemical change that happens to make the dead or dying skin cells separate from the upper layer, causing the monthly shedding in normal lip skin and rapid shedding in our case. Maybe if we could at least stop the separation of the cells temporarily, and keep preventing secondary infection, it would send a signal to stop the cell proliferation. Just some thoughts.
