I grew up as a child during WW II and someone told me that I had less change of getting heart problems. In the last years of the war our main food staples were cabbage, Sugar beets, potatoes and at the end we ate tulip bulbs. My father was able to get apples once in awhile.
As a baby I got fed kidney beans and don't know what else.
