The issue is that the doc has never bother to look into Depression as an effect and not the cause. Everything is easily lumped into symptoms (well, you are depressed, that's why you are fatigue, etc.) Never thought the other way round (what makes you depressed in the first place -- not the emotional issues btw.)

If antidepressant really works, even the pure depressed patient won't have to depend on it for the rest of their life. Btw, the side effect of antidepressant drugs is feeling suicidal....what an irony!
