I fully agree that our obedience, our choosing to follow God, etc. is very important. Faith without works is dead.

But the bible says we love God, because he first loved us. It has the word first in there because it is important.

1 John 4:19
We love him, because he first loved us.

The bible also says no one was seeking Him. We need to know that because we don't need to give ourselves credit for seeking him. We weren't. It was his grace alone that our eyes and ears were opened to him. Then we gladly choose Him.

We cannot truly understand the amazingness of God's grace until we understand we didn't do anything whatsosever to attain it, and that means even choosing him. If choosing him is how it is attained, then we have something to boast about. We chose, but others didn't! We made the right choice. Others didn't. See with that thought process, we could boast. What is more to boast about in the world, than we made the most important choice that could ever be made? And yes, we did choose. But we cannot boast about it because He did something in us first, before we could choose, which means the choosing on our part was only a result of what He did first, so therefore the glory goes to Him alone.

1 Corinthians 2:14
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

So how do we understand the things of the Spirit? How do we walk by the Spirit? He must give the Holy Spirit to us.

1 John 4:13
13By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

He gives the Holy Spirit to us when we are born again.
But it says here, we are not born again by human will, but by the will of God.

John 1:13
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
