Lost my post. :( Starting over, and will make it much shorter.
I think we agree on justification.
Which is good, because justification is still misunderstood with many.
I think our disagreement is in how we are sanctified. I don't believe sanctification comes by works of the law. I believe that just like justification, sanctification is God working in us, His spirit doing the work. And our response to this continual grace of him working in us, is love and praise, and obedience. Not perfect obedience, or pefect love, but as we grow and mature in his perfect fatherly love, I believe we become more obedient and love him more and more.
I believe that believing we are sanctified by works of the law will hinder our maturing in Christ because it will cause us to focus on ourselves instead of Christ which is never good for the christian that desires to grow and become more christ-like.
I believe this is what Paul is talking about here. What do you think he's saying here?
1O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Just a little bit below this, he talks about how the law is no longer our schoolmaster.
And I believe this verse shows us it's all the work of God from the beginning to the end.
Romans 8
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
He works in us, and we respond.
Phillipians 1:6
6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
