"That stuff about a curse isn't biblical."
Then what does this mean?
Galatians 3:13
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:
I don't agree that the commandments are more about what we shouldn't do. In the sermon on the mount, Christ made it clear that even the thoughts in our hearts and minds before we ever commit the sin are sin. And he said the two greatest commandments are to love God with all your mind, heart, and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. That involves a lot of doing.
The law should drive us to Christ, even now. When we read it, we should realize we fall short, repent, and ask God to continue his work of grace in us. True christians don't desire to be disobedient. I desire to be perfect, and do everything perfect as Jesus would. The problem is I can't. Just like Paul said he couldn't. Just like all the apostles and all the good men of the bible couldn't do it. The curse of the law was that it condemns us. And had it not been for Christ's death on the cross, to free us from that condemnation, we wouldn't have a hope.
When Paul talked about his struggle with sin, what did he say would save him from his body of death? He didn't say it would be himself picking himself up from his bootstraps and promising to do better. He said he thanked God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus was going to be his rescuer. It would be Jesus doing the marvelous work to perfect Paul. The Spirit of God produces the fruit in us. It's fruits of the Spirit, not the fruit we produce.
I'm sure I keep the commandments far better now that I'm just trusting Christ to do His work in me, than when I was focusing on trying to keep the commandments all the time. And I am much more freer in my walk with Him, and my love is much stronger.
Romans 7:6
6But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
