It is just my opinion based on what I know about bacteria and the bowel. I have read that SIBO often gets worse after Antibiotic treatment because if the offending bad bacteria is not eliminated it grows back and has less competition from good or commensal bacteria which have been eliminated. It's a bit like trying to kill crab weed in your lawn. If you apply a weedicide that kills all your grass, but not all the crab weed, then you end up with a lawn full of crab weed.
Logically, using the above analogy, Antibiotics can cause SIBO. I'm not saying Antibiotics will always cause SIBO, but given the right bowel environment and flora, and the wrong Antibiotics , I'm sure antibiotics can cause SIBO.
Personally I think the term SIBO is a bit misleading. It is more a case of an overgrowth of bad bacteria (e.g. Streptococcus) than an overgrowth per se.
