Jackie, I have a Waterwise distiller and have been very happy with it.
I'm posting a video of a Waterwise, not the one I have but it does sound like mine so at least you can hear the "noise". I really don't notice the "noise" because I've got a water fountain waterer for my cat. Its actually a waterfall and it is what I hear all my waking hours lol. I guess thats why I don't notice the distiller.
As for the heat, its not that bad at all and you can turn the distiller on when you go to bed at night or whenever. There is always going to be some heat associated with the distiller because it is the boiling water to create steam. I don't have a teapot but I would imagine thats the kind of heat it generates.
