Your interesting story brought to mind something my Dad told me a couple of years ago about his Grandad (b. latter 1800's). He said that every morning, he would wet a table knife blade and stick it into a container of Epsom Salts , stir this amount in a glass of water and drink this every day. My great grandfather lived into his late 90's and was fit and thin.
