Yes basically since last September, we only had 2 months of "summer". The rest was what I call fall/winter. This srpt. was the 3rd wettest on record. Last year the corn was 5-8ft tall or so and this year it was 3-6ft. But we still have brussel sprouts going.
It sounds like you guys probably get colder. And the root cellar is a good idea I think. I like the idea of leaving some carrots in ground and see what happens. Maybe cover them with the netting or the portable mini-greenhouses.
We have the sealable buckets too. One trick is to put some dry ice on some cloth inside them and the dry ice is heavier than air; so it will push out the air and leave the CO2 in there. Then seal them. That's supposed to last a long time too.
Yes it's going to be bad for city folk. I'm wondering if I'll be able to protect what I have when they span out looking for food when things get bad. I'd like to set up some kind of high tech infrared system to watch the property at night, but probably will never get around to it. I guess if it gets that bad, it's time to bug out or else have a couple of friends stay here and watch things at night. But then our food supply doesn't last as long.
