Hi Vidda,
The last fast I did was in the spring, 26 days that finished Easter Sunday (as it happened). And naturally, since then,
:-) I've been wanting to do another. I think it's easy to get 'attached' to the feelings of lightness, and the overall dawning realization that we are not 'the body', y'know? So I don't have any hard and fast recommendations for you--can only give you my sense of things form this perspective--knowing full well that only you can know what is the best course for you.
I'm not trying to get metaphysical on you, but I am truly coming to see that none of us can ever know what path another is on, and what "crazy" actions or whatever might be just the thing that finally turns the dial, and tunes in the RIGHT frequency, as it were. Hope that makes sense.
(I believe Water Fasting to be one of the few things that can bridge that great divide between body and soul, let's say)
Have you read this book? I think it presents a good idea for a fast... it's a form of applied alternating fast; I forget what that's called. Some people on this forum have tried that, I think. I have a sense -mind you, it's just my gut sense- it might be a bit soon for a 10-14 day fast. But then again, only you know what your reserves are like, including your weight, and what your health goals are.
I'd love to do a long fast again, but I think, reasonably, it's getting a little too late in the season for this. It just makes it a bit of a miserable experience to fast when you (me) are always cold. I had intended to do a long one in the heat of summer, which is really the perfect time, where I live, but I felt too attached to the experience of fruits and sprouted seed pates, etc.>> (side note: I concocted a wonderful -to me- food combo. just recently. I'll post on the natural Hygiene forum)Apologies to any hungry faster, reading this.
I think I'll probably do only ten days this time, (though it all gets good at about 14 days, in my prior experience), mainly because my son will soon be home from Europe, and I love to not be in too deep of a 'retreat' when he's around. Food remains a joy to share... There is painting to do, as well.
PS--I was thinking maybe of doing the ten days, and then doing the one day on, one day off, as per this little book I posted. That sounds like a good, gentle way to move the senses back into a state of balance, neither too much, nor too little. I've been eating too much this past while, and want to return to eating the very smallest amount that can serve the body--not eating for pleasure. That's the place Water Fasting connects me too, and I love it for that. I wonder if that's your experience as well?
I'm curious as to why you want to do another so soon...Not judging, mind you. It's always a big deal to carve out the time, isn't it? Next long fast I do, I really want to be able to mostly just meditate; to really disengage. (No cooking fodd for others...)I don't foresee that possibility until late winter/early spring. Maybe not even then.
we'll see.
thanks for your good thoughts
C.
