Sorry about your pain. You more or less just described the same symptoms I have, which sent me to the ER at the VA here in Dallas twice. Unlike you, I was diagnosed correctly with costochondritis and they are treating the acute pain with a non-steroid anti-inflamatory drug (NSAID) named hydrocodone, which contains some codeine. Hope to be off that as soon as possible. An over-the-counter (OTC) drug named Alieve is also supposed to help. A google search inputting "costochondritis treatment" will reveal some treating methods. Seem like it should be sorta left alone ecept maybe the application of heat or cold. Bengay or a similar product helps me. No one seems to be able to say exactly why it appears or how long it takes to cure but I understand it usually goes away in days rather than weeks. Regards and hope you get well soon... SiamJerry
