Ultrasound scans detect both calcified stones and cholesterol stones with an accuracy rate of 90-95%, but they have a hard time calculating the total number of stones and in finding stones lodged in the ducts that connects the liver to the gallbadder and to the pancreas and to the stomach/small intestine.
