Yes, I agree that white tongue of itself is not a major problem. I would settle for a white tongue for the rest of my life if the other symptoms would only go away.
However I think the existence of a white tongue is important, because we can see the tongue, whereas we cannot see inside our intestines. So if a white tongue is always Candida, as I believe it is, then I think it tells us something very important about our body. I think it tells us that we have an immune problem. If we all had healthy immune systems I don't think any of us would have white tongues. I think it is a symptom of the immune system not coping, quite possibly because it is stuck in Th2 mode. Now there can be many causes of the immune system being unbalanced towards Th2.
Zinc is known to help maintain a balance between Th1 and Th2. Those with zinc deficiency are more likely to have a Th2 dominant immune system and consequently have Candida problems (and white tongue). Supplementing with zinc can restore Th1/Th2 balance and thereby control Candida.
If you google zinc and white tongue you will get some hits. So, yes, a zinc deficiency can cause a white tongue. But that still doesn't mean the white tongue is not Candida caused by the zinc deficiency.
Sorry if I'm sounding a bit overbearing about all this, but it is a pet theory of mine. I admit I may be wrong. Won't be the first time. :)
