I don't believe Judas was ever written in the book of life to begin with, and so he never had to be blotted out.
Looking at verse 31 and 32 of Exodus, gives a better view of what God means in verse 33.
31And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
32Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
33And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
I think God was just telling Moses, it's not your decision who is in the book of life, but mine, and I can do the blotting if I want to. But never does he say he actually did that. I can't find where he said he specifically blotted out Judas.
I believe the names written in the book of life were done so before the foundation of the world, and that no one the father gave the son would be lost.
Revelation 17:8 "The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the pit of the deep and goes to destruction. And those dwelling on the earth, whose names are not written in the Book of Life FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD shall marvel when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
John 18:9 "That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none."
John 6:39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.
So did Jesus lose some? Is Jesus not going to accomplish the will of God?
The scriptures definitely seem to contradict sometimes, but we know they can't contradict, or we have a problem, right?
We do "act" as I said yesterday. We do have responsibility. I am not denying that at all. We do choose him, we do repent, we do walk in obedience. But it is all by His grace. We can't do any of that apart from Him regenerating us, taking our stoney hearts and replacing them with hearts of flesh that can love Him.
Ezekial 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
I believe Judas had a stoney heart the whole time, that he was never regenerated, and that he was never written in the book of life.
I believe all those born again, all those regenerated, are guaranteed to inherit eternal life, because it is God who starts the work, and it is Him that finishes it.
Phil 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
And after God begins this good work in us, we begin to respond. He gives us life in Him, and we began to walk according to His spirit given to us, walking in good works that he prepared beforehand. Isn't this the story of Paul? He was on the road to Damascus and God had another plan.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
