To remove excess of mercury in your body, it was suggested to use stuff like Alpha Lipoic Acid in some places in the web.

Appeartely it makes the mercury water solutable and then the body gets rid of it? So using ALA is good?
Because i came across a post by a highly educated user on some forum that stated ppl should only use ALA to get rid of mercury by a highly esteemed doctor supervisor, becase the metals can mobilize into the brain or something? jesus crist, iv been taking 600mg of ALA for couple of days now, and a much lower dosage in the past, but for long.

What's the take on ALA and mercury?

I also seen contridicting posts/studies about MSM and Cystine - some states that it helps with mercury situation
And some that it makes matters worse

Lastly, how does one know he has a mercury problem? a hair test?
