Chickens are clever, my chickens go into a feeding frenzy if I give them snails or caterpillars to eat, and I never do this barefoot any more, as toes are fair game :)

I've not found chicken poo to be very splatty, but duck poo, eeeeewwwww. That is the very definition of splatty.
