my wife has been in pathology for well over 2 decades. we discussed this last night and she is who i got this principle from. she said that if the primary tumor is removed the metastases can also go into retreat and/or are easier to treat. not a solid study, just observations of the cases she has seen and conversations with pathologists over the years.
