You can have Thrush without to be severely immune deficient. Children get Thrush when they are given repeated Antibiotic courses for ear infections. But, a white tongue doesn't mean always Thrush . Google Thrush pictures and you will see the difference. When you have Thrush and scrap your tongue, you see small blood spots in that area.
