De is about 85% silica which our bodies need for bone health. Many Americans are deficient in silica. I,too, have found that a good sized dose of DE can reduce back discomfort. My guess would be that you are deficient in silica(and therefore it has helped with your back pain) and should probably keep taking the DE for awhile.
