I would try assuming that you have found a great acupuncturist or acupressurist. My husband is an acupressurist, not for a living but he studied and graduated in California. He said, that like most things not all acupuncturists are created equal.
I went to a acupunturist while I was 7 months pregnant to help me have a good delivery. I was able to deliver a 9 lb boy built like a linebacker vaginally, so I would say it worked great. My acupuncturist was Asian and had studied in China. A lot of chiropractors these days perform acupuncture and I am not for sure they are all qualified. Acupunture isn't just using needles, it's manipulating energy and energy points. So be careful who you choose to work with.
With respect to your candida I think you would be an excellent candidate for acupuncture. With all of my research on candida as I have suffered from this condition as well, candida has a harder time surviving in a highly oxygenated body. That's why a lot of candida books stress excercise. So acupuncture could open you up and allow more energy to flow throughout your body and ultimately allow a better oxygen flow as well helping your body fight off the candida.
In regards to the actual procedure, I never felt the needles at all, but I tried hard to not focus on them. I would meditate with all of my sessions. I think acupuncture is great for preventative health too and if my health insurance covered it I would of continued after my pregnancy.
Good Luck!
