Citrus juices, like fresh squeezed grapefruit juice or lemon juice, when mixed with the oil and the mixture shaken vigorously, emulsify the oil is it isn't gaggy oily when you are swallowing it. If you were to just drink the 1/2 cup of oil it would most probably gag you to the point of throwing up.
