I have several myself and love them. They do give off some negative ions but nowhere in the vicinity of a dedicated ion generator.

I do like the aesthetical value of the lamps. Stimulates peacefulness. An "inner calm" as it were. :-)

Some lava rocks will also generate some negative ions as will certain gems stones

One thing of note is that with an ion generator, you will need to wash your walls often as dust and grime will cling to them after ions remove particles from the air and deposit it there.

Better on the walls than in your lungs.
