If liver flukes were raised in a lab setting - they would be white.

Bile is made in the liver and it is green - bilirubin is yellow/orange - and of course blood is red.

This is why young flukes are whiteish/pinkish - but can also be orangeish or greenish- the young adults are pink/red and the OLD flukes are dark brown/maroon/black.

The color depends on where in the liver they live. Flukes are unaffected by acids - this is why they come out whole.

Each liver fluke can live to be 20 years old - and at that age they are large (prune size) and very very dark.
