Do you keep this in the refrigerator? Maybe it would slow growth down if it were kept cold.
Also my nutritionist suggested cutting up garlic cloves and putting it in the water to kill bacteria. Don't know if this would work for fibers. Of course your water will taste like garlic all the time, so don't know how happy you'd be with that.
