This is interesting Hunter, the people are trying to save valuable rock paintings from a mining development. Perhaps they are telling people what they want to hear, maybe they think that the white people of the courts would think better of their art if it depicted a god being that the white people would recognise? I don't know, all I know is what I have been told of the Wanjina by the local elders in my area. Perhaps this group view the Wanjina differently to other groups.

There are many different indigenous groups, and all have different beliefs and stories, although some are similar, there are none that I know of that have exactly the same beliefs. Their laws are also very different from one group to another.
